Huskers In The CFL: Ciante Evans Has A Shot At A Title!

The Grey Cup is coming up soon and Evans could win a title!

For the second straight year, Ciante Evans will have a shot at winning a Grey Cup.

The former Husker and his Calgary Stampeders are on their way to the Canadian Football League championship after outlasting the Edmonton Eskimos in the West Division final Sunday night in Calgary.

It will be the second year in a row a former Husker will attempt to win a Grey Cup after former Husker Jonathan Rose and the Ottawa Redblacks won last year’s game over Calgary.

The Stampeders, who held the CFL’s best record at 13-4-1, will take on the Toronto Argonauts, who won the East Division final Sunday over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Argonauts feature former Husker Josh Mitchell, who suffered an injury in Week 1 and hasn’t played since.

In Sunday’s West final, Evans had four tackles on the game, but added a couple of critical pass break-ups, the first coming in the third quarter with Edmonton in the red zone, the second on a late fourth-quarter Edmonton with Evans isolated in one-on-one on a deep route.

In last year’s Grey Cup game, Evans had four tackles and an interception in Calgary’s 39-33 loss to Ottawa.

Evans appeared in 17 of Calgary’s 18 regular-season games and registered 53 tackles and a team-high five interceptions, which ranked third in the CFL.

The 105th Grey Cup game goes Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m. ET and can be viewed in the United States on ESPN2.
