Flakes: State FFA Convention Starts Today

The Blue Coats are coming! Baseball takes on Omaha tonight and softball plays a doubleheader against Iowa State. Computers are designing a happier workplace, but only until they get smart enough to take your job.

Those of you in Lincoln are about to be invaded. The state FFA Convention starts today at Pinnacle Bank Arena and over 4000 high school kids wearing blue coats will be there. Some are competing for opportunities to go on to national contests, some are receiving recognition for past accomplishments, and others are just trying to watch and learn.

I sent two Blue Coats off to the big city this morning. Son 1 is competing in Farm Management and Agricultural Biotechnology. Son 2 is there for Agriscience and Livestock Evaluation.

Yes, the picture above is terrible. Kids, it comes from a newspaper. I know many of you are unsure about what that is, but we used to read our stories on paper. Paper! Anyway, that is me receiving my American FFA degree a few years ago. I tried to find a picture of our state officer team, but it is probably best you don’t see the post-80s hairstyle I was rocking back then.

The Husker baseball team takes on UNO tonight at Werner Park in Omaha. First pitch is at 6:35. Let’s hope the offensive fireworks we saw last night vs Creighton continue.
