Another game, another loss for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars went on the road and fell to 0-4 after being defeated by the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football by a final score of 24-21. The Jaguars played a much better game overall, did not trail until the final play of the game, and did not turn the ball over for the first time all season, but still came up short.

Last week, we looked at snap counts for each player for the Jaguars against the Arizona Cardinals, and as we have done all season, will continue to examine snap counts with the game against the Bengals now up.

Only 19 players saw offensive snaps for the Jaguars last Thursday night, and two players, wide receiver D.J. Chark Jr. and offensive guard A.J. Cann, left the game early with injuries. Chark fractured his ankle on just the third play of the game, while a knee injury limited Cann to 21 plays. There were five players who played 100 percent of the snaps: rookie quarterback Trevor Lawerence and offensive linemen Jawaan Taylor, Cam Robinson, Andrew Norwell and Brandon Linder. Running back James Robinson (95 percent of offensive plays) and wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. (93 percent of offensive plays) were also heavily involved against the Bengals. Tight end Dan Arnold — who Jacksonville recently acquired from the Carolina Panthers in the C.J. Henderson trade — played a somewhat significant amount of snaps for only being with the team for a few days before the game. Arnold was in for 18 plays, making two receptions for 29 yards. Look for Arnold’s role to expand as the season moves forward.

For the second week in a row, Jacksonville limited its defense to 17 total players throughout the game. There were not a lot substitutions within the secondary — which struggled to contain Joe Burrow and Cincinnati’s passing game in the second half — as cornerbacks Shaquill Griffin and Tyson Campbell, and safeties Rayshawn Jenkins and Andrew Wingard, all played 100 percent of the defensive snaps. Also of note in the defensive backfield, cornerback Tre Herndon — who was active for the first time this season — played 39 defensive snaps, while safety Rudy Ford played just seven defensive snaps. Linebacker Myles Jack was the only other player to play all 58 snaps on defense. Defensive end/outside linebacker Lerentee McCray was dealing with a hamstring injury at one point during the game, and played just one defensive snap, but did get 14 reps on special teams.
