The Jaguars began its three-day mandatory minicamp today to cap off Phase 3 of its offseason.

According to multiple reports, the Jaguars have brought in four players for a tryout today during the first day of mandatory minicamp, including former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Laquon Treadwell.

Treadwell, 26, was originally selected by the Vikings in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, selecting him 23rd overall. He would go on to spend four seasons with the team, never quite living up to expectations.

The team would decline Treadwell’s fifth-year option, along with releasing him prior to re-signing him in 2019 just after the season began. During his time in Minnesota, Treadwell would catch 65 passes for 701 yards and two touchdowns.

Last year, Treadwell signed with the Atlanta Falcons appearing in just five games for the team. During his time in Atlanta, Treadwell caught six passes for 49 yards and two touchdowns.

At 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, Treadwell entered the league with high expectations following a stellar career at Ole Miss, accumulating 202 receptions for 2,383 yards and 21 touchdowns during his time there. He would be recruited by Jaguars head Coach Urban Meyer coming out of high school while Meyer coached Ohio State.

Other tryout players attending today’s minicamp include cornerbacks Simeon Thomas and KeiVarae Russell and offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins.

Thomas, 6-foot-3, 197 pounds, was drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, has bounced around several teams after short stints. He has played for the Seattle Seahawks and, most recently, the Washington Football Team. He was released with an injury settlement by WFT in September of last year.

Russell, 5-foot-11, 196 pounds, was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He would be waived prior to the 2016 season starting. Since then, Russell has played for the Cincinnati Bengals (2016-18), Los Angeles Chargers (2019), New York Giants (2020) and the Green Bay Packers (2020).

Hawkins, 6-foot-6, 305 pounds, was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He would play just two seasons with the club, ultimately being placed on the team’s reserve/injured list prior to the 2018 season.

After being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019, Hawkins spent some time with the Houston Texans before re-joining the Steelers in 2020.

The Jaguars will continue its three-day mandatory minicamp over the next two days, capping off the team’s first offseason under new head coach Urban Meyer.
