Jacksonville Jaguars 2017 NFL training camp is right around the corner, so that means we can start going position by position looking at the Roster and who will make the final 53-man. We’re going to look at who we think is safe at each position, which means the chances of being cut are very slim and would be a big surprise. We’ll also point out who we think are on the bubble, which means it’s a player that is going to need to impress and show their value during camp and the preseason.

Next up, defensive line.

Who is safe: Malik Jackson, Calais Campbell, Yannick Ngakoue, Abry Jones, Duwaune Smoot and Lerentee McCray

I think this list of six is pretty much a no-brainer for those who are a lock to make the roster. I included Lerentee McCray because I feel he’s going to be a core special teams player, who can also play as a pass rusher or linebacker if needed. He has a history with the Jaguars new special teams coordinator, so I think for at least this season he will be a lock for the roster.

Who is on the bubble: Dante Fowler, Jr., Sheldon Day, Michael Bennett, Jonathan Woodard, Stefan Charles, Hunter Dimick, Mallicah Goodman, Carroll Phillips, Tueni Lupeamanu and Kevin Maurice

Yeah. I know, right? I’ll just go ahead and say this: I firmly expect Fowler to be on the Jaguars Roster in 2017 and to be active on game day, however I think if the right offer came the Jaguars wouldn’t have much issue cutting bait with Fowler, especially given all that’s come to light over the past two weeks.

Outside of that, I think there is going to be a battle for who can show an ability to be a rotational player at the three-technique position as well as the primary backup nose tackle job. I would expect that the likes of Day, Bennett, Dimick and Phillips make the strongest push to make the final 53-man roster.
