Dontari Poe took less money than Jaguars offered

Apparently Dontari Poe preferred the Falcons overall.

After making a run at free agent defensive tackle Dontari Poe, the Jaguars missed out, with Poe instead choosing to sign with the Atlanta Falcons. Apparently money wasn’t the most important factor for Poe, as Josina Anderson reports that he accepted less money to join the Falcons.

Poe passed up on the Jaguars fully guaranteed $9 million deal to instead sign with the Falcons for $8 million, so he obviously preferred the situation that the Falcons and Dan Quinn offered over the Jaguars. The former Kansas City Chiefs nosetackle had a meeting with the Indianapolis Colts over the weekend, but no contract offer was extended and then made a visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Poe ultimately ended up signing with the Falcons on a one-year, $8 million deal that can end up being a $10 million deal if other incentives are reached.

Poe, 26, was originally a first round pick for the Chiefs back in 2012. He has been a cornerstone in a good Chiefs defense since his rookie year, missing just two total games through four years. While Poe plays the nosetackle position, he's viewed as someone who offers much more than just being a run stuffer and is not limited to a 3-4 front.

You win some, you lose some, I guess. Now go get Johnathan Hankins.
