Good to see that Exeter Chiefs have now confirmed that, with effect from the 2022-23 season, the club will drop its indigenous American-themed branding and logo, replacing it with a new brand which honours the Celtic Iron Age Dumnonii Tribe and the history of the region.
The name "Chiefs" - having been associated with the club for over a century - remains, there being nothing intrinsically wrong with the name itself.
It is right and proper, however, that the Native American branding - adopted in 1999 and which has in recent times drawn criticism from the National Congress of American Indians - should be retired. It has been a while coming but eventually common sense has prevailed.
And, is it just me, or is it a coincidence that the new branding bears an uncanny resemblance to Jack Nowell?
