World Rugby addresses colour blindness

I was fascinated by World Rugby’s announcement yesterday of the introduction of new regulations, to take effect from the 2027 World Cup, that will prevent red/green kit clashes.

The new regulations would mean that one team would have to wear change kit in the event of, say, a match between Wales and Ireland.

The stats say that over 300 million people worldwide currently suffer from some form of Colour Blindness, with around one in 12 men affected globally.

I had no idea that Colour blindness was so prevalent and it makes absolute sense that measures are taken to alleviate the problems caused to sufferers of the condition.

What I don’t get, however, is why we need to wait until 2027 to implement the changes? Surely the time is now?
