Very surprised at the news that former Harlequin and England under 20s winger, Gabriel Ibitoye is joining Israeli club Tel Aviv Heat.
At Quins, Ibitoye was looking every bit an England prospect until 2020 – when he decided to up sticks and try his hand in France, first with Agen and then on loan with Montpellier – neither of which moves proved particularly successful.
So now Ibitoye finds himself in Israel (where, in my ignorance, I didn’t know professional rugby existed) and will play against Georgian and Russian clubs in the eastern conference of the new Rugby Europe Super Cup.
All part of Ibitoye’s great adventure, I guess, but I can’t help but think that he has only ended up there because of a lack of credible offers from the Premiership – or is that just me being incredibly parochial?
