Porsche Expected to Release a Range-Topping Electric Family Hauler in 2027

Porsche is going Electric, shifting decades of motorsport and engineering knowledge to completely novel propulsion systems and platforms. The Taycan arrived in 2020 with mind-bending performance, and we’ve seen spy images of an electric 718, so it’s not a huge surprise to learn that the automaker is planning an electric seven-seat SUV to compete with the latest and greatest from Mercedes and BMW.

Autocar reported that Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said the vehicle is “a very sporting interpretation of an SUV.” Like the Taycan, the upcoming model will be a high-end flagship, as Autocar says it will slot into the lineup above the long-running Cayenne. Porsche hopes the K1, as it’s called internally, will help it appeal to luxury- and SUV-hungry buyers in North America and China.

The K1 is Expected to share Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with the electric Macan, due next year. The automaker will refine the platform ahead of the SUV’s arrival in 2027 with lessons it learned from the Mission R concept car.

A 920-volt electric system is rumored to enable faster charging times than any EV on sale today. The K1 is expected to get oil cooling for its electric motors to preserve performance during hard driving.

We don’t know the K1’s price or exact release date but expect a 2027 release with a price tag north of $150,000.
