We’re guessing a trip to the dealership for service is a routine affair for most people, but sometimes things go sideways. There are all sorts of stories of cars being dropped off lifts and about dealer employees taking nice cars for joyrides. One thing we haven’t seen, at least until now, is a car falling down an elevator shaft. Oh, and this car happens to be a Ferrari Roma, which can cost more than $300,000 in some cases. 

The Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to a call on January 31 at Ferrari of Palm Beach. When they arrived, they found not a fire but a six-figure Ferrari dangling over the edge of an elevator shaft. The car fell rear-first and ruptured its fuel lines on the way down, draining its tank onto what appears to be an elevator car below. 

The fire crew called a local heavy-duty towing and recovery company to assist with the operation, which involved Kauff’s Towing company’s new truck, a 45-foot boom, and several 50,000-pound winches. 

We don’t know if someone was driving the car when it fell or if this is just a freak elevator malfunction. What is clear, however, is that only the choosiest automotive YouTuber would attempt to rebuild the Roma after this accident. Still, someone might be able to hit the Copart auction and grab the hopefully undamaged powertrain for a crazy engine swap.
