Jordi Alba speaks on his ‘issue’ with Luis Enrique

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba came under the spotlight a while ago when Luis Enrique took over the reigns of the Spanish national team.

Both men had history at Barcelona and in Enrique’s final season, their relationship was not at it’s best.

With the tactician changing things up to a 3-man defense, Alba found himself struggling for game time and openly expressed his frustration and desire to play more.

And when Ernesto Valverde took over, comments from the defender only heated up the situation after he had said he would be much better with Valverde.

Enrique’s anger with the left-back seems to have come down a little with Alba’s latest inclusion in the Spanish national team for their upcoming games against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League.

Clarifying why he made such comments, Alba said: “I said that because of my desire to have more minutes (on the field).”

“Everyone wants to play more and I it’s something I do not regret saying.”

“In the last season (with Lucho) I played less minutes and we all want to play more.”

Continuing, he added: “He (Lucho) helped me a lot at Barcelona and he is a great person”

“It was his decision to leave me out and I had to accept it.”

“It’s the same with Valverde’s, with whom I have an incredible relationship but if someday he decides not to play me then I’ll have to say ‘oh well’.”
