Barcelona wins battle with Bundesliga and Premier League clubs as player signs contract

The Catalans have changed the midfielder’s release clause from three million euros to 50m euros, a figure that will automatically increase to 100m euros if he manages to reach the first team.

In yet another victory for Barcelona they have won a transfer tussle with clubs from the German topflight football, the Premier League and Spain’s second division.

Europe’s biggest clubs have been circling around the best talents at La Masia, but Barcelona have succeeded in extending the contract of Alex Collado.

The 19-year-old was part of the Barcelona Juvenil A team that won the UEFA Youth League and his performance attracted clubs from both within and outside Spain.

Collado’s former deal with Barcelona was set to expire in 2020 and they were genuine concerns within the club that he could leave.

His new contract would he penned added another year which means he is now contracted to the Catalans until 2021.

His buyout clause increased from 3 million euros to 100 million euros if he gets promoted to the first team, but would be 50 million if he remains with Barcelona B.

Collado joins the likes of Abel Ruiz and Juan Miranda who have signed new deals.

He is expected to join Ernesto Valverde’s team for their pre-season training.
