Argentina certainly looked like a very determined team when they stepped onto to field to play their final Group D game against Nigeria on Tuesday night.

The match lived up to the billing as the South Americans were made to work extremely hard for a 2-1 win.

Argentina broke the deadlock after just 14 minutes of play and their goal came from a player many were fully expecting to get a goal – Lionel Messi.

Messi got on the end on a beautiful long rage pass from Banega, but still had a lot of work to do before finishing off the ball with his right foot straight into goal.

The game finished 1-0 at half-time and then a careless mistake from Javier Mascherano from a corner kick handed Nigeria a penalty kick that was converted by Victor Moses.

It took until just four minutes from normal time before Marcos Rojo eventually grabbed the winner for the 1986 World Cup winners.

Before Messi faced the press, he took to Facebook to send a message that came from his heart.

He wrote:

“I thank everyone who is out here for all of the sacrifices they’ve made, and also those back in Argentina who have always supported us.”

“This shirt comes before everything else.”
