Manchester United traveled to play Manchester City at the Etihad on Thursday night.
As as expected, the game generated a lot of headlines around England and Europe in general. But one interesting revelation before the game was Pep Guardiola’s admiration for Michael Carrick.
Speaking on Carrick who is in the twilight of his career, Guardiola told the press before the match: “I am a big fan of Michael Carrick.
“He is one of the best holding midfielders I’ve ever seen in my life by far.
“He’s the level of Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets in Barcelona and Munich.
The match ended 0-0 as both teams shared a point. And afterwards, Guardiola and the United midfielder were seen exchanging words.
What Pep Guardiola told Michael Carrick
When asked by Sky Sport, the 35-year-old also explained his admiration for the Spanish boss.
Carrick said: ‘He just said congratulations and well played,’ the 35-year-old told Sky Sports.
‘He’s obviously a terrific manager.
‘I’ve got a lot of respect for him.’
