Yesterday Cristiano Ronaldo was honored by his city Madeira as the airport was renamed after him.
And in addition to that, a bust of the Portuguese was also unveiled. The sculptor was far below the expectations of the fans who all took to the internet to make fun of it.
It looked nothing like the Portuguese and you just wonder Cristiano Ronaldo’s initial thoughts on seeing it.
But first off, lets introduce the man responsible for producing the disastrous piece of art. He is a Madeiran sculptor called Emanuel Santos, and he hasn’t been pleased with the negative reactions his work has received.
“It is impossible to please the Greeks and Trojans. Neither did Jesus please everyone,” Santos said, via Guardian.
“This is a matter of taste, so it is not as simple as it seems. What matters is the impact that this work generated. There is always the possibility of making a difference, I was prepared for all this.
“I used as base some photos of Cristiano Ronaldo that I found on the internet, nothing specific. I put the photos next to me and started working on the bust.”
Cristiano Ronaldo’s reaction on seeing his sculpture
Did Ronaldo give his seal of approval?
Well according to Santos, Ronaldo’s brother took pictures and sent to the superstar. And the only thing Roanldo wanted changed was some wrinkles.”
Santos explained Ronaldo’s first reaction to seeing the bust: “Cristiano saw the photos that his brother sent him. I was with the brother at Cristiano’s museum in Madeira and from the messages he sent, I could tell that he liked what he saw,” he said.
“He only asked for some wrinkles that give him a certain expression in his face when he’s about to laugh to be changed.
“He said it made him look older and asked for it to be thinned out a bit to make it smoother and more jovial. But they gave it the go-ahead before they liked what they saw.”
