George Mason used a big second half to take care of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in their last win. They are now 6-0 at home on the season but haven’t won anywhere else yet. It was great to see Josh Oduro come alive scoring a season-high 23 points but he wasn’t going up against much in this opponents’ front court. His inconsistency this season has really hurt them, something most thought wouldn’t be as glaring of an issue this year with the added depth.

The wins against Hofstra and Toledo were great signs of this team moving in the right direction after a pretty awful showing in their early season multi-team events back in November. The three-pointers certainly aren’t dropping like they were at this time last year and Victory Bailey Jr. is proving to be no D’Shawn Schwartz. DeVon Cooper and Ticket Gaines have also struggled at times but Cooper did have a nice game that helped Mason fend off a tough Toledo squad.
Defensively they have been tough but it’s amazing how little turnovers they are generating with the athleticism on this roster. Hoping to see the intensity on defense continue on the road. We also should be desperately hoping they improve on free-throw shooting, which has been atrocious. It really has been killing them when you consider how slow of pace they play at (adj tempo #317 currently).
Ronny Polite has been improving and has been a fine starter but I think the team expected more from Saquon Singleton to be a point guard when they brought him in. We’ve also seen a lot of good thinks from freshman Devin Dinkins but overall I think this is an area that is holding the offense back a bit. I would think this will improve as the season Continues but overall guard play needs to be way better before conference games start.
