George Mason outlasts Dayton at home 50-49

Kim English picked up his first Atlantic 10 victory last night in a 50-49 rock fight against Dayton. It was nice to see a better defensive effort than the team’s let down in Foggy Bottom and for Josh Oduro to return to the lineup. Oduro has 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots. D’Shawn Schwartz again led the scoring front with 17 points. It was a much needed win to keep pace in the conference as most teams have played more and we don’t know if all the games that were postponed will be made up.

They look like a totally different team with Oduro back in action. We know now that any diversion from the starting lineup gives this team problems as they really on go 6-7 deep most games. An injury to a starter could quickly end this season unfortunately. But they are healthy now and the starting five seems to be able to compete with just about anyone in the conference. They host Saint Joe’s Monday and then have a real test with St. Bonaventure coming to town Wednesday. It more postponed games have to be fit in to the schedule Mason will likely have to play 3 times a week occassionally between now and the end of the season. Will they be able to do that and keep pace in the standings without exhausting their starters?
