The program moving on from Dave Paulsen was sure to have player Transfer implications and yesterday freshman star Tyler Kolek announced he’s weighing his options.

Looks like he’s leaving the door open to possibly return to George Mason depending on who the next head coach will be. I’m skeptical he will return though given that he’s not from the area, will be a hot commodity on the Transfer Market and was tied to Paulsen because of his high school coach.

Earlier we also saw that senior Javon Greene will look elsewhere for his fifth year and sophomore Bahaide Haidara will also elect to transfer. I’m sure these won’t be the last and it won’t be surprising to see more of the younger players go. Have to remember that this works both ways and there will be a massive transfer market for Mason’s new coaching staff to draw immediate talent from.

Of those that remain that would be a priority to keep for the next coach will be Jordan Miller, Josh Oduro, and Jamal Hartwell. With those veterans you can at least build around them to put together something with other potential transfers to not feel like a total rebuild is being down. Miller and Oduro are local guys who may choose to stay because they will want to continue to play close to their families. We’ll see as both are coming off career years and would garner attention.

The next head coach regardless is going to have to bring in guys right away. This is the A-10 and teams don’t rebuild, they reload almost at the level of some Power 5 schools. They will probably try to keep incoming guys that had committed already such as Mike Gray and TJ Gadsen. I believe Gadsen had graduated his high school early and was already enrolled at Mason so he could be a key piece to try to keep for the new staff.
