George Mason has fired Dave Paulsen

George Mason has decided to part ways with head coach Dave Paulsen after six seasons. His run in Fairfax produced a 95-91 overall record and no NCAA or NIT tournament appearances. Paulsen, who appeared to be Mason’s fourth or fifth choice during the last coaching search, did the a decent job of getting the program out of Atlantic 10 bottom four and some level of respectably. However, he had been unable to keep up with recruiting and the grind of a tough conference. Even during some of their better season Mason never advanced further than the 2nd round of the A-10 tournament and often the final scores weren’t even close. With the school obviously putting an emphasis on winning basketball games, given the facilities upgraded and tougher conference, it’s been clear Paulsen just isn’t getting it done.
