George Mason continues to roll as they knocked off Big Ten opponent Nebraska last night 85-66. The Patriots are not set to play in the Cayman Islands Classic tournament final against New Mexico State tonight. Jamal Hartwell was exceptional in this one scoring 23 points and dishing out six assists. Jordan Miller bounced back from a so-so performance in the previous match to finish with 20 points and eight rebounds. Mason’s calling card continues to be solid defense and relentless rebounding with AJ Wilson embodying those traits the most of the group. He had seven offensive rebounds last night (14 total) and continues to be all over the court on both ends.

Javon Greene also stepped up in a big way. They are at their best when Hartwell is hitting outside shots and Greene is scoring well in the second half. Turnovers were still too high in this one and a lot of that falls on these two guys. Despite that Mason had control the whole game which is also a great reflection on these two leading the offense.

It’s no secret now that this squad is playing some pretty damn good basketball. The mix and young guys and veterans along with balanced offense has made them difficult to defend against. They’ve be able to overcome missing key players, as they didn’t have Greg Calixte in this one and it didn’t seem to matter even though they were playing a Power 5 school. Defensively they have held teams to lower shooting numbers all season long as the Huskers managed only 39.3% from the field.

Justin Kier played again and for a few more minutes this time, scoring his points of the season. He even added a three-pointer. Great to see him back and being an addition to already thriving group.
