John Elway and the Denver Broncos made a bold move trading up for Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch on Day 1 of the NFL Draft. What prospects could be on their radar for today's Day 2 festivities?

The Denver Broncos acquired their quarterback of the future last night by trading up to obtain Memphis product Paxton Lynch in the first round of the NFL Draft. Now, the Broncos will focus their efforts to adding talent at other positions on the second day of the draft.

After giving up the 94th pick yesterday’s trade to the Seattle Seahawks, the Broncos have only two selections scheduled for today. Their first selection is 63rd in the second round, followed by the 98th, a compensatory selection, at the end of round three.

That doesn’t mean the Broncos will stay put.

Though the compensatory selection cannot be traded (but such picks will be able for trade in next year’s draft), Denver has multiple fifth-rounders, plus two seventh-rounders in this years draft that they could use as ammunition to move up and snag one of the top remaining prospects on their board in the second round.

Also keep in mind that Denver, outside of their sixth and seventh round selections in 2017 (traded away for Vernon Davis and Mark Sanchez respectively), they have a full slate of selections available for trade. 

It is a firm possibility the Broncos are aggressive and move up to find the players they desire to add to the roster. It is expected that the team will receive third-round compensatory selections for Brock Osweiler and Malik Jackson, as well as a fifth and seventh round selections for Danny Trevathan and Ryan Harris.

Who could be some of their potential targets on Day 2 of the NFL Draft? Lets take a look at some of the best remaining prospects available.

Top Remaining Prospects

Myles Jack, LB — UCLA

Jack slipped out of the first-round due to concerns with his knee, which he admitted could require micro fracture surgery at some point in his career.  The average NFL career is less than three years, but teams such as the Broncos could be willing to take a chance on the Bruins player who was undoubtedly one of the best in college football.

His freak athleticism and ability to sniff out the ball anywhere on the field make him a highly regarded prospect, but there is no denying the concern that circles around his knee.  Denver is in need of a replacement for Danny Trevathan at inside linebacker, and Jack could fill that need if he were to be their second selection.

A’shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed, DL — Alabama
The defensive line tandem of Robinson and Reed fell out of the first round of the NFL Draft, but they won’t have to wait much longer to find homes on the second day of the draft.  Robinson is considered a better prospect than Reed and could be a fit anywhere across the Broncos defensive front.

Reed projects as a nose tackle in Denver’s defense, but some scouts believe he and Robinson are best suited for a two-gap defensive front, as opposed to a one-gap defensive scheme that the Broncos employ under Wade Phillips.

Charlie Campbell of Walter Football had reported a few months back that Denver was enamored with Jarran Reed.  Where there is smoke, there is fire — and we will see if the Broncos make a move for the talented Crimson Tide product later today.

Jason Spriggs, OT — Indiana
The Broncos bolstered their offensive line by signing Russell Okung and Donald Stephenson to contracts in free agency, but with Okung’s deal essentially being a one-year rental with a four-year option, the team may be interested in adding an offensive tackle of the future to their squad.

Jason Spriggs is a perfect fit for Gary Kubiak’s zone blocking scheme and is considered one of the most athletic tackles in this years’ draft. In order to snag him, the Broncos would likely have to move up into the top portion of the second round, but his potential would certainly be worth it.

Chris Jones, DL — Mississippi State
Jones is an intriguing talent and his addition to the Broncos would provide an immediate replacement for Malik Jackson.  Questions regarding his maturity and effort have been concerns for teams, but when he is firing on all cylinders, he is a dynamic performer on the field.  He is one of my favorite options for Denver in the second round and I would be thrilled to see him acquired.

Cody Whitehair, OL — Kansas State
Whitehair isn’t the strongest lineman in the draft, but he could be considered the best technician and overall, perhaps the most well-rounded player in both the pass and run game.  Though the Broncos seem to be high on Max Garcia and Ty Sambrailo, it never hurts to add one of the best collegiate lineman in the country to your roster.

Whitehair could play any position on the offensive line, but his short arms suggest his best fit is at guard or center.  He is certainly a prospect to keep an eye on and would be a welcomed addition to a team who certainly needs to protect their quarterback of the future, Paxton Lynch.

Emmanuel Ogbah, DE — Oklahoma State
Ogbah might be undersized for a 3-4 defensive end, but the Big 12 product is an absolute monster on the field capable of terrorizing quarterbacks and devastating running backs in the open field.  He’s one of my favorite prospects remaining and I believe he would thrive under the tutelage of Wade Phillips and Bill Kollar.

Sterling Shepard, WR — Oklahoma
The team will do whatever it can to extend wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders at the end of this coming season, but selecting Shepard would give them his replacement.  An open field terror who can line up at any slot at receiver, Shepard will be a hot commodity in the second-round of the NFL Draft for teams in need of a starting receiver.

Jihad Ward, DE — Illinois
Ward is as raw as a prospect can be, but his potential is through the roof.  At 6’5, 297 pounds — Ward has the size combination and athletic ability to be a premier 5-technique defender if he dedicates himself to learning the nuances of the game and gives it all he has on the professional gridiron. This is a name to watch for the Broncos at pick #63.

Jonathan Bullard, DL — Florida
Gators prospect Jonathan Bullard would also be a welcomed addition to the Broncos defensive front. Bullard has the versatility to play any position on the line, but would be best suited outside at defensive end. He might not be as physically imposing as some of the other prospects available, but he is more consistent and plays with better technique than a majority of them.

A Handful of Safeties
One of the long-term needs for the Broncos is help at the safety position.  Several highly regarded prospects such as T.J. Green, Jayron Kearse, Darian Thompson, Jeremy Cash and Sean Davis are still on board and there is a very good chance at least one of them is available at either of their Day 2 selections.  All of them have tremendous upside and offer different skill sets that could improve the back end of Denver’s secondary.
