It’s all bad.

Well that was just awful.

For the last few years, I find myself here in my basement long before the sun comes up typing out an article that points a crooked accusatory finger at someone for the Denver Broncos latest shortcoming following a loss. This particular morning, I’m not sure I have enough fingers to point.

What we are seeing this year is a complete failure from the top down.

Injuries have decimated the team and that’s nobody’s fault. However, it is incumbent upon the coaching staff to put the players they have in the best position to win. They aren’t doing that. The defense isn’t getting pressure, the offense is disjointed and wholly incapable of finding any rhythm. The Broncos brass spent the last two years drafting playmakers and it’s as if coaches forget they’re there for large swaths of the game.

You can’t blame the coaches when they’re given a decision between Jeff Driskel, Brett Rypien, and Blake Bortles. Let me put it this way, when the answer to your problem is Blake Bortles, you should have awareness that you haven’t addressed the issue. Forget the quarterback disaster for a moment. I let the coaches off the hook to some degree because the glaring deficiency in the team over the last 5 years, the offensive line, hasn’t been addressed. So is it John Elway’s fault? Sure, why not.

Or is it, rather, the fault of the gentleman who’s job it is to hold Elway accountable for his decisions? We could complain about Joe Ellis, but there is nobody to file that complaint with. Joe Ellis answers to nobody and so he’ll keep collecting a paycheck if they win or if they lose. While the Bowlen children continue to sue each other into oblivion over control of the team, Ellis will keep sharpening pencils at his desk, Elway will ignore the offensive line, the coaches will have to work with what they have, and the players, the ones that aren’t injured, will have to shoulder the responsibility for poor play.

The Broncos have a leadership and responsibility issue. Until those in charge take responsibility for the Denver Broncos, fans will continue to watch as our once proud franchise burns to the ground with each embarrassing loss.
