T.J. Ward: The way the Broncos handled it was “completely unprofessional”

T.J. Ward feels the Denver Broncos handled his situation in a completely unprofessional manner.

It’s not every day a former player speaks out against a team that just cut him, but T.J. Ward has never been one to mince words. After signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he met with their local media and told the Denver Broncos exactly how he felt about the situation.

“It’s unfortunate the way they handled that situation,” Ward said in the interview above. “But it is what it is. They got to live with it. I got to live with it, and we’ll see what happens. But I’m going to make sure I land on my feet. That’s just me. And whatever happens to them, happens to them. That’s on them.”

According to Nicki Jhabvala of The Denver Post, the Broncos didn’t come to a final decision until on Ward until that final week. But that could just be a PR move as Ward felt they were planning to do this for quite some time.

“I mean, you could have let me know what was going on,” Ward said. “You had a full offseason. I know it’s a business, but when you have good employees you’re supposed to treat your employees a certain way. I think they just handled it completely unprofessional. That’s just my opinion.”

For a guy like Ward, who was a member of the one of the best defenses in team history and a Super Bowl champion, John Elway and the Broncos could have handled Ward much better. Sure it’s a business, but some players deserve a little more respect.

Clearly T.J. Ward didn’t feel like he got that kind of respect from the Broncos organization. And that, as a fan, is disappointing to hear.
