Aqib Talib says Lorenzo Doss is ‘taking that next step’ so far in camp

The All-Pro cornerback had high praise for his young teammate.

Lorenzo Doss, the third-year cornerback out of Tulane, has been having himself a great camp this year, picking up right where he left off this time last year.

It was Doss who made pick-sixing Mark Sanchez his favorite past-time last offseason. This year, he continues to be around the ball, making plays.

His teammates have begun to take notice, and Aqib Talib had some high praise for Doss after practice yesterday.

“Doss is taking that step. He's making a lot of plays on that ball, and besides that he's in the right spot a lot more than he was last year. We got a little board that we keep track of everything. His mental error column is almost empty and he's getting better in that area.”

This is good to hear, especially about the mental errors, as Doss has always shown a knack for being around the ball, but has been a bit of a feast-or-famine player in the past.

Chris Harris mentioned this earlier in OTAs when he said: “Doss is just a ball hog. Doss is always around the ball. He may get beat but he might still come out with a pick. It’s a win-lose with Doss.”

It’s a crowded cornerback group, but Lorenzo Doss looks to be solidifying his spot on the team as he continues to make big plays but also shore up the weaknesses in his game.

Whenever you can get Chris Harris and Aqib Talib to take notice, you’re doing something right.
