Just six months after surgery to repair a torn ACL suffered Week 9 of the 2023 NFL season, Jones took part in 7-on-7 drills as the Giants their first of 10 on-field practices as part of Phase 3 of the offseason program, commonly referred to as OTAs. That news came from the team’s official website after Monday’s practice.
The report said Jones completed passes to wide receivers Wan’Dale Robinson and first-round pick Malik Nabers. Jones did not participate in the 11-on-11 portion of practice.
The Giants have said repeatedly throughout the offseason that Jones was on track to be ready to open the season.
In mid-April, Jones told media that he was “making good progress.
“The plan is to be ready to go by training camp,” Jones said at the time. “That’s when I’m shooting for and feel good about being ready.”
When the Giants signed Drew Lock the feeling was that Lock would get the majority of the reps prior to training camp. In recent weeks, there has been increasing speculation that Lock could push Jones for playing time in 2024.
Monday was, perhaps, an indication that Jones will do everything possible to keep the job.
Remaining Practices:
May 21, May 23, May 28-29, May 31, June 3-4, June 6-7
Mandatory minicamp: June 11-13
