‘I do, yes’: Daniel Jones still believes he is the best quarterback for the Giants

Jones says he is still on target to be ready for training camp as he rehabs from ACL surgery

There are concerns about his knee. His neck. His ability. There are whispers, no, roars, that the New York Giants will look to take a Quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft who could succeed him.

Daniel Jones probably knows all that. He also knows he thinks he is the team’s best option at quarterback in 2024.

“I do, yes,” Jones said with a smile when asked if he thought he was the best quarterback for the team to start the upcoming season with.

Jones was asked about the often-discussed possibility the Giants would select a quarterback in Round 1 of the NFL Draft.

“My focus is what I’m doing here with my rehab,” Jones said. “The nature of our business, it’s a competitive league, so the best way to handle that I think is to focus on what I’m doing, focus on myself and make sure that I’m healthy and ready to play good football. That’s what I can control. That’s what I can do to help myself, and the team.”

Jones, entering his sixth season, is trying not to look into what might happen.

“I think you can get into trouble when you try to think too much about some of those things,” Jones said. “I’m just focused on what I’m doing.”

Jones said he is “making good progress” in his rehab from surgery for his torn ACL. He said he is now throwing while dropping back and moving around.

“Feel like things are going well,” he said.

Jones said the target remains for him to be ready for training camp.

“The plan is to be ready to go by training camp,” Jones said. “That’s what I’m shooting for.”

Jones said he is hopeful that he will be allowed to do some on-field work during OTAs or mini-camp this summer.

“I want to do as much as they’ll let me do,” he said. “That’s the goal. Obviously want to be smart and not do anything you can’t do. That’s my goal is to be involved and participate in some of those drills here in the spring.”

Jones said his neck is “100 percent healthy” and a non-factor. He said he had a stinger that is “pretty common” and that it is no longer a concern.
