How the Philadelphia Eagles were built - and what the Giants can learn
Lessons for the Giants? Here are four:
- Isn’t it obvious? Prioritize the offensive and defensive lines.
- Sirianni and Roseman seem to feel that they have their franchise QB in Hurts. But equally, if 2022 turns out to have been fool’s gold and Jones regresses in 2023, then the Giants need to have the courage of their convictions and move on. Having a young QB drafted on Day 2 or even early on Day 3 waiting in the wings, as the Eagles did with Hurts, would make the decision easier.
- Since the free agent pickings are slim this year, they need to draft a wide receiver no later than Day 2. Or use draft assets to make a bold trade the way Roseman did. Unless you’re Patrick Mahomes, you need great receivers.
- The Eagles’ defense was much better with James Bradberry paired with Darius Slay than it had been the previous two years. They shouldn’t pass up a potential shutdown CB if one drops to them.

Michael Strahan: Giants’ future bright if they keep Jones, Barkley | New York Post
Michael Strahan believes the Giants should pay and keep both Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley.
You gotta keep Saquon,” Strahan said at a Fox press conference. “You can see that Daniel Jones is better with him in there, the team is better with him in there, he’s a leader in every single way. I think Saquon Barkley is one of the players that you have to keep on this team in order to build off what they did last year.”
Strahan believes Jones is the heir apparent to Eli Manning.
“This guy hasn’t been in the same system with the same head coach, coordinator, anything since he’s been with the Giants,” Strahan said. “See what he did this year? With a receiving corps that was depleted? It’s just amazing to me that he made the playoffs. And he took over games when he needed to take over.

The Giants’ brass publicly expressing interest in bringing Jones back does not seem like fluff at all, but rather a genuine desire to lock him up long term just one year after declining his fifth-year option. The apparent complete 180 gives some reason for pause, with Jones’ production through the air far from spectacular, but new head coach Brian Daboll cooked up an offense that perfectly suited his skill set, ranking in the top five in the number of play-action plays and designed quarterback runs.
Nevertheless, Jones’ 63.3% accurate pass rate ranked eighth and his 81.1% adjusted completion percentage ranked first, though it’s important to note his 6.4-yard average depth of target ranked 46th out of 47 quarterbacks with at least 100 pass attempts. Still, it’s hard to completely hold this against Jones when he was working with bottom-of-the-depth-chart, waiver-wire receivers for much of the season.

“Everyone knows how I feel about New York,” Barkley said over the weekend at the Pro Bowl Games. “I have a great agent and she’s going to take care of that.”
A lot of that can be credited to first-year head coach Brian Daboll, the man responsible for turning the Giants back into winners.
“He’s brought energy and spark, brought back life,” Barkley said. “To not just the players but to the whole facility, the whole area. . . not on Dabes but all of the coaches. Everyone who came in did a really good job.”

GIANTS, RAVENS, CHARGERS FORCING WR IN ROUND ONE
There are three teams at the backend of the first round who have big wide receiver needs: the Giants, Ravens and Chargers. New York would love to get a true “X” receiver to be a strong and reliable presence on the line of scrimmage against press who can win by the sideline and in the red zone.
The issue is that this class isn’t heavy at the top with those kinds of players. There are some, but it’s just not the richest year to grab receiver talent, whether in the draft or in free agency. Each of these teams has needs beyond receiver, and so the wise thing to do is address the position without forcing a pick early on just because.
