Farrell is one of several unheralded and mostly unknown linemen competing for roster spots with the Giants

Let's forget the right side of the New York Giants offensive line for a minute. The depth on that line is perhaps even more of a jumbled mess. Perhaps Bobby Hart will be part of that mix, if he's not starting. Maybe former CFLer Brett Jones can prove himself. Maybe the Giants turn to the waiver were. Maybe some of the unsung players currently on the 90-roster step up.

Like, perhaps, Dillon Farrell. Who is Farrell? Well, even the Giants' PR department seems confused.

He is a 25-year-old center/guard who played a handful of snaps with the San Fransisco 49ers in 2015 while current Giants offensive line coach Mike Solari was there. Let's take a closer look at Farrell as we continue our series of player-by-player profiles.

2015 Season in Review

In 2014, Farrell played 33 offensive snaps for the San Francisco 49ers. Twenty-seven of those snaps came at center in one game. He was released by the 49ers before the 2015 season began and psent the year on the Tennessee Titans' practice squad.

2016 Season Outlook 

Solari's familiarity with Farrell, and the fact that he can play both guard and center, are perhaps the reasons why Farrell is on the roster. Will he still be there when the Giants cut down to 53 players before the seasons starts?

At center, the Giants have had journeyman Adam Gettis working with the second team. Jones and Shane McDermott have been getting reps behind Gettis and starter Weston Richburg. Perhaps Farrell eventually fits into that mix.

At guard, Hart is a potential reserve, as is Gettis. Ryan Seymour, another ex-49er, is a possibility. Emmett Cleary, who has mostly played tackle in his career, has also been working inside.

At this point, with players practicing in shorts and t-shirts, interior line play is impossible to judge. You have to think, though, that Farrell has a real opportunity.
