Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie: Davis Webb is "a young Eli"

Can Davis Webb still be the Giants future at quarterback? Two of the team's best think he can

It caused a bit of a stir when New York Giants rookie quarterback Davis Webb got reps with the starting offense in practice this week.

The general belief is that there isn't much he can do to dissuade the Giants from drafting a quarterback with their first pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, even if he is able to get in a game.

That hasn't stopped Webb from showing two of the Giants' best defenders that he has the stuff to be Eli Manning's heir, and there is no need to draft another quarterback.

“Don’t draft him," Landon Collins said to the Mew York Post when asked about using the Giants' potential top-five pick on Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen. "Don’t do it. Davis is gonna be really good in the league when it’s his time, I promise you.”

It's a sentiment that his teammate Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie agrees with.

“A young Eli," he said, asked what he has seen from Webb in practice. "I used to laugh at him, ‘Why is the man mimicking Eli during a practice when Eli takes a step, you can see him behind him doing the same motion he is. What is wrong with this dude?’ It finally hit me that he’s just trying to do everything that he’s doing, so he’s definitely learning, willing to learn and he’s doing the right things, I think.”

Learning how to be an NFL quarterback seems to be the biggest hurdle for Webb going forward. But his work ethic and arm talent seem to have made believers put of Collins and DRC.

“Nah, nah," Rodgers-Cromartie said. "I think he’s the guy that has the arm, and he’s studied under Eli, so I think he still has an opportunity to be that guy.”
