Giants Free Agency Rumors: PK Robbie Gould to test market, per report

Several veteran kickers will be available

Placekicker Robbie Gould will test the free agent market, per a report from ESPN, leaving the New York Giants searching for a veteran kicker with the free agency signing period opening later this week.

Gould was signed midseason by the Giants in 2016 after they moved on from Josh Brown and found Randy Bullock wanting as a replacement after he kicked in only game. Gould was solid, making all 10 of his field-goal attempts. The 35-year-old 12-year veteran struggled with distance on kickoffs, though, getting touchbacks on only 46.3 percent of his efforts.

The Giants did sign Aldrick Rosas to a futures contract. Rosas was in training camp with the Tennessee Titans last season as an undrafted free agent, but the former NAIA kicker has never appeared in a regular-season game.

There are several veteran options available on the free-agent market:

  • Nick Folk [Free-agent profile]
  • Steven Hauschka [Free-agent profile]
  • Greg Zuerlein [Free-agent profile]

The best placekicker in the 2017 NFL Draft is probably Zane Gonzalez.

None of this rules out a return by Gould. The only thing seems hard to imagine at this point, though, is that the Giants would simply hand the job to Rosas.
