Dolphins owner Stephen Ross declines whopping $10 billion offer for Miami Dolphins, Formula One Race

ANDRES LEIVA/PALM BEACH POST / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Dolphins will remain in the Ross family.

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has reportedly turned down an offer for the team, up to nearly $10 billion. The offer also included taking over the rights for the Miami Grand Prix, held at Hard Rock Stadium for Formula One.

Ross bought the Dolphins in 2009, taking over from previous owner Wayne Huizenga. He purchased a 50% stake in the team for $1 billion, and assumed complete ownership soon after. Since then, the team’s value has skyrocketed, leading many to believe a sale might be eventually on the cards. In terms of valuation, the Dolphins (along with Hard Rock Stadium and the Formula One Miami Grand Prix) are worth approximately $5.24 billion as of 2023. Ross has nearly 5x his money, but he says he’s staying right here.

Early reports from Safid Deen of USA Today suggest the Ross initially entertained an offer worth $10 billion from Ken Griffin, who is currently a part-owner of the Chicago Cubs. Griffin grew up in Dayton Beach, Florida, and attended Boca Raton High School, right here in South Florida.

Unfortunately for Griffin, it doesn’t look like he’ll get to take over his hometown team. Ross, who has owned the Dolphins for 15 years, plans to pass the team to his daughter, Jennifer Ross. Despite the high valuation, Ross insists the team is not for sale and intends to keep ownership under the Ross family name.

Under Ross’ ownership, the Dolphins have yet to win a playoff game, and have zero division titles. However, the team consistently ranks as one of the best in the NFL in regards to player satisfaction, and the Dolphins are always big spenders in free agency. You can criticize the results, but you can’t criticize Ross’ commitment to the team.

Would you like to see Ross sell the team? Why or why not? Let us know down below!
