The Dolphins safety was injured during the team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.

Miami Dolphins Safety Jevon Holland collided with linebacker David Long, Jr., during the team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. Both players remained on the turf after the collision before standing a few minutes later and walking to the sideline under their own power. There the unaffiliated neurological consultant gave them preliminary concussion tests. Long did not pass the tests and was taken to the locker room, where he remained for the rest of the game. Holland was able to pass and returned to the game.

Monday afternoon, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Holland has now entered the concussion protocols. Despite passing the tests on Sunday, Holland reported concussion symptoms Monday morning and now will be sidelined until he is able to pass through the protocols.

McDaniel also reported Long was not in the concussion protocol despite the additional testing done during the game.

The Dolphins face the New England Patriots on Sunday. Holland could be cleared to play, but it seems more likely he will miss this week’s game as the team brings him back slowly. McDaniel has routinely said he believes part of his job is to protect players from themselves, and, even if Holland is cleared before the game, the missed practice time and concern over potentially reinjuring the safety’s head could lead to Miami deciding to sideline him for the week.
