Dolphins sign Sam Young; Ted Larsen to IR

The Miami Dolphins have completed the move of placing the injured Ted Larsen on IR, while re-signing tackle Sam Young.

The Miami Dolphins have made a fully expected roster move on Monday, placing injured guard Ted Larsen on Injured Reserve. The veteran offensive lineman tore his biceps muscle earlier this summer, an injury that is expected to keep Larsen out of action for at least the first few months of the season. In order for the team to place Larsen on injured reserve and have the ability to bring him back later in the year, he had to make the 53-man roster, which was “finalized” on Saturday.

Now that he made the roster, Miami made the move to place him on injured reserve, then bring back another player who is expected to have an important role this year. Sam Young, a sixth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2010, spent last season with the Dolphins, starting one game along with seven other appearances during the year. This summer, he has worked as the team’s swing tackle, playing the reserve role for both right tackle Ja’Wuan James and left tackle Laremy Tunsil.

Young was seen as a surprise release when the Dolphins made their roster cuts on Saturday. However, he likely was the safe release, as he would not have to go through the waiver process due to being a veteran of the league, and Miami could inform him that they would re-sign him as soon as the Larsen to IR move was completed.

Young should resume his role as the swing tackle.
