The Miami Dolphins made a series of roster moves on Friday, saving more the $10 million against the Salary Cap in 2016.

The Miami Dolphins made two roster moves on Friday, clearing Salary Cap Space in the process. The team announced the release of defensive end Quinton Coples and cornerback Brice McCain, a move that should save the team over $10 million in salary cap space next season.

Coples joined the Dolphins in November, being claimed off waivers from the New York Jets. The first round pick for the Jets in 2012, Coples never seemed to fit the team's system, being used as both a defensive end and a linebacker, and he never really excelled at either spot. When he was waived by the Jets, Miami brought him to South Florida as a late season rental, adding depth to the defensive end position. He played in six games for Miami, but did not record a stat.

Coples would have accounted for $7.75 million against the salary cap in 2016, all of which will be saved by the roster move. The Dolphins could look to re-sign him at a lesser amount, though he is free now to sign with any team.

McCain joined Miami as a free agent in 2015, initially being plugged into the starting lineup opposite Brent Grimes. He ultimately started 10 of the 14 games in which he appeared for the Dolphins, but lost his starting position due to inconsistency. He recoded 39 tackles for the Dolphins, with one interception and ten passes defensed.

McCain was scheduled to account for $3.5 million next year, with $2.5 million in savings.

The Dolphins also announced the hiring of Wisconsin Defensive Backs Coach Daronte Jones as the team's assistant defensive backs coach. The also parted ways with assistant general manager Eric Stokes, who had worked under former general manager Dennis Hickey.
