Mike Pouncey hip injury to keep him out of Jets game

Head Coach Adam Gase has already ruled out Miami’s center.

The Miami Dolphins will be without center Mike Pouncey again this weekend, according to head coach Adam Gase. The Dolphins’ Pro Bowl offensive lineman has missed the last four games with a hip injury, after missing the first four games of the year recovering from hip surgery. There is no published timetable on Pouncey’s return.

“He won’t practice this week.,” Gase said on Monday. “He’ll be out. I’ll give you an early one on that one.”

The Dolphins have dealt with offensive line injuries all season, to include Pouncey’s eight games missed thus far, along with four missed games from Pro Bowl left tackle Branden Albert and one missed game from rookie left guard Laremy Tunsil. Albert had in-season surgery to repair ligament damage in his wrist after the joint was dislocated against the San Diego Chargers in Week 10. Tunsil injured his shoulder and has been trying to play through the pain and with a brace.

Pouncey being out this week means Anthony Steen will again start at center. Steen has been dealing with injuries the past several weeks, and some of his movement has been limited because of the injury. The Dolphins will need him to step up, especially given the team will also be using a backup quarterback in Matt Moore after starter Ryan Tannehill sustained sprains to his left ACL and MCL.

The Dolphins will face the New York Jets in a Saturday night contest this week.
