On how much they wanted to show what the bigs were capable of with this game …
“Just coming off a loss, you always want to step up and play big. You always want to get that bad taste out of your mouth.”
On if this was the “tweak” Coach Cal talked about …
“No, we can’t answer that question.” (laughter)
On if the team was trying to make a statement by going to him in the post early …
“Nah, we’re just playing basketball. That’s what we normally do when we play games, try to jam it in and see how the defense reacts and whatnot, see if they leave shooters or anything like that.”
On if the “tweak” is more of a reset button late in the season …
“No. I mean, it’s just a little tweak to help us out here and there. Helps us be a better team overall.”
On how much better the team is when Skal Labissiere plays like he did …
“Great. I mean, if he can do that every game we would love that, but from here on out just gotta build on it. I mean, I think he can. He played well today. I’m proud of him.”
On how much they felt like they had to help produce with Tyler Ulis and Jamal Murray …
“A lot. We can’t be a one-dimensional team. We have to have all-around scoring from – everybody on the team can score. We’ve seen it throughout the season. We just gotta do it on a consistent basis every night.”
SKAL LABISSIERE
On when he knew he would start and what it meant to him …
“It meant a lot. I found out yesterday that I was starting. Apparently had a pretty good Practice and Coach Cal told me I was going to start. So I had to just get myself ready for it, and that’s what I did.”
On what instructions did Coach Cal give him …
“Just go out there and play really.”
On what got into him for this game …
“Every single day at practice we work on it. I just have to go out there and do it. That’s basically it.”
On being effective on pick-and-pops and how much they work on that …
“We run that a lot at practice, in games. That’s something we always have and I love running with Tyler. He knows how to find me at the right spot at the right time. It’s pretty effective.”
On his mindset over these past couple months …
“Just to keep working and whenever I get my chance to just go out there and take it. That’s basically been it.”
On what a game like this does for his confidence …
“It’s a huge confidence booster. I just have to build on it, like Alex said. We don’t have a long season left, it’s almost tournament time, so hopefully I can do that in tournament time.”
