Eagles News: Doug Pederson says he's not concerned about Nelson Agholor's struggles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 8/30/16.

Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Are Eagles too easy on Agholor? - Inquirer
And yet, Pederson said Monday that Agholor won't likely play in the preseason finale Thursday because he didn't want to "risk an injury" and because the second-year receiver is "right on track where he needs to be." Of course, he is. Otherwise Pederson's rhetoric when asked about Agholor's problems wouldn't have been the coachspeak equivalent of the receiver taking his eye off the ball. "I've seen what he can do in practice," Pederson said. "Is there the occasional drop here and there? Yeah. But you know what? What he did after the drop - you probably didn't notice, the blocking he did down the field, the things he did away from the ball.""I'm not concerned with Nelson," Pederson said.

Wentz Frustrated About Missing Preseason Finale - Birds 24/7
Carson Wentz confirmed he won’t play in the Eagles’ preseason finale Thursday night against the Jets, but he does expect to be good to go once the regular season hits next weeks. "It’s frustrating. I was obviously hoping to get out there one more time in the preseason, but it is what it is. I’m going to still try and learn as much as I can and get ready for Cleveland," Wentz said. "Especially me as a competitor, coming in here these preseason games were going to be big for me. It’s tough."

Doug Pederson, 'master of obvious,' using his skill players correctly - PhillyVoice
When you have a 6'5 wide receiver covered by a 6'0 cornerback in the red zone, maybe you throw him a high fade. When you have four different running backs all with different styles and skill sets, maybe you don't use them all the same exact way, as we noted when we predicted Darren Sproles will be used more logically this season.

A New Era with Some Refreshing Changes - ChipWagon
If Chip was going to continue being successful running a shortlist of running concepts, he was going to have to build in some other constraints. Early on Chip used things like orbit motion and packaged plays to challenge the backside of the defense on his inside zone, outside zone and sweep running concepts. As time went on, he dramatically moved away from that and I never understood why. The zone read, orbit motion and packaged plays were almost non-existent once Sam Bradford took over the offense. I can understand the first, but if he was going to continue to run the same simple run concepts out of a shotgun spread he needed to add some constraints. One of which I screamed for was the jet sweep. As frustrating as it was to not see this in 2015, it was refreshing to see it last Saturday night in the preseason.

Eagles Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz holds open forum on Kaepernick, social issues - ESPN
Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz held an open forum during a meeting Monday to discuss Colin Kaepernick's decision to sit down for the national anthem, according to multiple players in attendance. Schwartz is deeply patriotic, several noted, and asks his players to line up side-by-side, hand over heart, to pay respect to the country’s servicemen and women pregame. He did not steer this conversation in any particular direction, instead encouraging his players to speak their minds.

Game Review – PS3 – PHI 33, IND 23 – The Offense - Iggles Blitz
Sam Bradford – 17-20-167. Threw for 2 TDs and an INT. The pick wasn’t his fault. Tried to hit Agholor over the middle. Nelson couldn’t make the grab and it bounced to a DB. Ideally you’d like that ball out in front of the receiver so he catches it at full speed and can add good RAC yards, but the Eagles used a 1st round pick on Agholor to make tough catches. I don’t know if Bradford threw a bad pass all night. He overthrew DGB in the end zone, but that was from 20 yards out and they’re still working on timing. Did a nice job on early 3rd/17. Rusher came up the middle. Sam stepped to the side and then hit Givens for a 1st down. Solid throw. Loved the fade to DGB for the score. Put the ball up there and let his guy go get it. The quick pass to Huff for the long gain was a good throw. Consistently put the ball where it needed to be so his guys could catch it and make plays.

PHI-IND grades: Constant pressure leads to average night for Andrew Luck - PFF
LB Nigel Bradham’s career has been in decline since playing well as a backup in 2013, but he made his presence known in Saturday night’s game, notching two defensive stops and clogging running lanes, forcing the HB to cut elsewhere. MLB Jordan Hicks tore his pectoral in 2015 after a promising start to the season. Hicks struggled in the first two preseason games of 2016, but found an edge against the Colts, especially as a pass-rusher, recording a QB hit and hurry on just seven pass-rush snaps.

Myke Tavarres apologizes for becoming distraction to Eagles - NJ.com
"I want to apologize for the distraction I've become to all of Eagle Nation. I feel passionate about racial issues going on in our country and I thought that sitting during the National Anthem would bring more awareness to this issue and encourage more constructive discussion to find solutions, but I feel I only made things worse."

Mychal Kendricks may be only starter to play Thursday vs. Jets - CSN Philly
"Why? Because he hasn't played," Pederson said. "He hasn't played and we just want to see him get game and live reps. That's the bottom line." And just to be sure, Kendricks is still a starter? "Oh, yeah. He's another one that we'd love to see again this Thursday night in a short role," Pederson said. "But at the same time he hasn't played all preseason. Stephen Tulloch's another one that we need to see play. So there's an opportunity for these two to get some more reps on Thursday."

Youth Is Served At Wide Receiver - PE.com
It wasn't exactly shocking, given the limited reps and game production that Rueben Randle and Chris Givens offered in practices and in preseason games, that they were among the first wave of cuts announced by the Eagles on Sunday ...

The Broncos might not even know who Mark Sanchez is - SB Nation
Denver named Trevor Siemian the starting quarterback. Was this program error a harbinger of doom for Sanchez?
