Eagles Rookie Profile: 6 things to know about Will Shipley - BGN
“I don’t think Shipley has top-flight starter upside, but he can be a useful player in a limited offensive role catching the ball out of the backfield, getting a few touches on the ground, and perhaps contributing on special teams. Given where he was taken in the draft, if he does that, you’ll feel good about the value of the pick.”

In Roob’s Observations: Figuring out the Eagles’ cornerback room - NBCSP
4. Three weeks before Sean Desai was fired, the Eagles had the 12th-ranked defense in the NFL and they were coming off a win in Kansas City over the eventual Super Bowl champs in which they shut out Patrick Mahomes and Company in the second half, the first time in three years the Chiefs had been blanked in a second half. Then they gave up 34 points in a win over the Bills – two of their TD drives were under 50 yards – and then they got gashed for 42 and 33 points by the 49ers and Cowboys. In the span of three weeks they faced the No. 4, 5 and 2 offenses in the league, three offenses averaging a composite 28.4 points per game, and they got no help from an offense that repeatedly put them in poor position and that’s when Desai was fired and replaced by Matt Patricia. We all know what happened after that. The more I look back on the end of last year, the more I realize how changing defensive coordinators in midstream created far more problems than it solved and what a horrible mistake it was to replace a defensive coordinator who three weeks earlier had the No. 12 defense in the league with the Eagles rolling along at 10-1. I think about Haason Reddick standing at his locker and giving his honest assessment of the change: ““I’m not going to say or act like it’s not a hard thing to do. It is hard. It’s extremely hard.” Desai wasn’t perfect, but it was a combination of the schedule, poor personnel – especially in the secondary – and an offense that made things very tough on the defense as well as some of Desai’s shortcomings that contributed to that three-game collapse. And any chance the Eagles had to turn things around going into those last four games was with the same scheme, the same defense, the same terminology, the same voice that got the Eagles to 10-1. That was a panic move and out of character for a franchise that likes to take a smart, measured view of things. Getting rid of Desai was a mistake. Replacing him with Patricia was a bigger mistake.

The Trey Lance trade possibly cost Dallas Cowboys Tony Pollard’s replacement - Blogging The Boys
They say hindsight is 20-20, and it’s true. Had the Cowboys known then what they know now, there’s a very real possibility they never would’ve traded for QB Trey Lance. The fourth-round pick they gave up for him quite possibly cost them Tony Pollard’s replacement in some form. The choice has already been made. The Cowboys only option is to move forward and hope Trey Lance can somehow rise from the ashes like the Phoenix and prove himself capable of becoming a starting-caliber QB in the league. Whether or not that ends up being in Dallas is still the ultimate mystery, one in which we can only wait and see what happens.

PFF names Bobby Okereke most underrated New York Giants’ player - Big Blue View
Earlier this week Pro Football Focus ranked the most underrated player amongst all 32 teams, and for the New York Giants, it seemed like a no-brainer to recognize linebacker Bobby Okereke. Signed by New York last offseason, the $40 million free agent contract last offseason, the investment was worth the return.

The 5 O’Clock Club: Joint Practices - Hogs Haven
At the time, the Ravens, as you may recall, held the most meaningless record in the NFL — the longest unbroken winning streak in preseason games. You’ll notice that I used the past tense in that sentence; of course, we all know that the Washington Commanders broke that winning streak on a Joey Slye field goal in the game’s closing seconds. It was the the highlight of the 2023 season.

Private equity in the NFL? How team ownership might shift - ESPN
A special committee of NFL owners has spent the past nine months investigating potential changes to league rules for team ownership, an attempt to grapple with a shrinking pool of potential team buyers amid soaring team valuations. One of the possibilities on the table: allowing institutional wealth, including private equity, to invest in NFL franchises, which the league has never permitted. Owners will likely discuss — and potentially vote on — the committee’s research and findings at league meetings in Nashville this week.
