Smitty is here to stay.

The Philadelphia Eagles and DeVonta Smith have agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension, according to an official team announcement. The team also announced they picked up his fifth-year option.

And so Smitty is now under team control through the 2028 NFL season.

He was originally under contract for 2024. The fifth-year option, which is worth just under $16 million, accounts for 2025. And then the three-year, $75 million extension that reportedly includes $51 million guaranteed kicks in for the three seasons after that.

This news hardly comes as a surprise; there was a recent report about the Eagles and Smith discussing a new deal. It was said that there was “general optimism” about something getting done.

Smith has obviously been a very good player for the Eagles since they traded up to select him at No. 10 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Only 16 players have amassed more receiving yards since he entered the league. Smith is currently averaging 117.3 targets, 80 receptions, 1059.3 yards, and 6.3 touchdowns per season. And despite (overblown) pre-draft concerns about his slight frame, he’s only missed one game due to injury (which was likely due to the team being overly cautious about him in Week 18 last year).

Smith is now the second member of the Eagles’ 2021 draft class to sign an extension. The team previously extended Landon Dickerson’s contract back in March. At the time, there was some question why Smith wasn’t extended first ... but the presence of the fifth-year option (or lack thereof with Dickerson) always afforded the Eagles more time to get something done.

Still, Eagles fans can feel good knowing Smith is now officially here to stay. They can also feel good his extension came in before the price goes up even higher with new deals expected for the likes of CeeDee Lamb (lol Cowboys), Brandon Aiyuk, etc.

In terms of the extension, Smith’s $25 million annual value currently ranks tied with teammate A.J. Brown for the fourth-highest at his position. Accounting for the fifth-year option in 2025, however, Smith is really around $22.75 million for the next four years after 2024. That currently ranks 10th in annual WR value. But, again, Smith will only be pushed down by the new deals that are bound to come in over him.
