Question from Steve: Who do you think is more responsible for our 0-2 start? Howie Roseman or Doug Pederson? And how bad does it have to get for Jeffrey Lurie to make a change before next year? ... Roseman, clearly. The 2017, 2018, and 2019 drafts have collectively not produced enough positively contributing players, his free agent acquisitions in 2018 and 2019 were bad (2020 not looking great either, by the way), he has made bad deals at each of the last two trade deadlines, and contract extensions for Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Brooks (more notably Alshon) have really damaged their cap situation. Lurie isn’t firing Roseman, though.

Wentz’s inaccuracy is the biggest issue with the Eagles’ offense right now. He leads the NFL in “poor throws” as charted by Pro Football Reference. He’s simply missing a lot of plays he should be making. See for yourself in the following two videos:

Taylor helped guide Wentz, after a so-so first 12 games, to a strong finish last season. But this year’s task may prove more difficult. Wentz has uncharacteristically had the worst two-game stretch of his career, and with Taylor’s new responsibilities as pass game coordinator, offensive coaching turnover, and personnel changes at receiver and offensive line, fixing him could take more time than the Eagles can afford. Wentz is near the bottom of most NFL statistics for quarterbacks. Only the Vikings’ Kirk Cousins has a worse passer rating, 61.9 to 64.5. They both have thrown an NFL-worst four interceptions. Their 58.5 completion percentage is tied for 29th. But numbers tell only part of the story. On film, Wentz looks like a quarterback in search of an identity. He’s been aggressive when he should be prudent, timid when he should be attacking.

Running backs I love in Week 3 — Miles Sanders, Philadelphia Eagles, vs. Bengals. Sanders’ managers have been through it so far this season. They risked an early-round draft pick in the preseason on a guy with a limited NFL track record in a crowded backfield ... and then he missed Week 1 to injury. PANIC TIME! But then Week 2 came along, Sanders was healthy, and he got more than 75% of snaps, 23 touches — including four in the red zone and two goal-to-go carries — and 20.1 fantasy points. I’m not ready to call my preseason call of him as more of an RB2 for season long a total “L” just yet, but this weekend won’t help my cause as I expect him to crush once again against a Cincinnati defense allowing 32.5 running back carries per game this season and a whopping 5.5 yards per carry. One way to stop Carson Wentz’s interception problems? Just have him hand off to Sanders. Expect a lot of that Sunday.

Bengals at Eagles (-4.5). The Eagles have been outscored by 28 points through two games — the worst differential for any NFC team. Carson Wentz’s accuracy has been erratic, and the offense has no identity. According to EPA, the Eagles’ defensive performance last week was the worst of any team through two weeks. The Bengals, meanwhile, need better play from their offensive line and more explosive plays. One bright spot last week for the Eagles was their run blocking. This feels like a game in which they try to calm things down and lean on a heavy dose of Miles Sanders. The pick: Eagles (-4.5).

But the reality is this: It’s time for the defensive line to lead the way. Right now. “A lot of times those guys have been winning their rushes, but the quarterback gets the ball out quick,” Hargrave said. “Or, different things just happen and you’re a second too late. I think we’ve got a real talented group and you’re going to start to see it pick up soon.” Burrow has been sacked six times in two games and was hit a fair amount on other throws. Running back Joe Mixon, who gained more than 1,100 yards in each of the last two seasons, is averaging just 3.3 yards per pop through two weeks. The Bengals are still trying to find themselves up front, and yet they are a disputed pass-interference penalty (Week 1 against Chargers) and a close-loss-game (35-30 to Cleveland in Week 2) away from being unbeaten.

5 Bengals to watch for against the Eagles - Cincy Jungle
After all that discourse surrounding the Bengals either extending A.J. Green or letting him play on the franchise tag, the Bengals appear to have made the right decision so far. Green either looks mighty rusty after missing the last year-and-a-half, or he’s just no longer in his prime at 32 years of age. These sentiments are strong after watching his performance last against the Cleveland Browns, but it’s easy to forget he could’ve easily eclipsed 100 receiving yards against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 if not for a couple missed throws from Joe Burrow. Basically, we haven’t seen enough to know for sure what kind of season Green will have. But after a nine day break, the Eagles’ weak pass defense (27th in Football Outsiders’ DVOA metric) looks like the ideal opponent to get Green back on track.

4. Joe Burrow is currently slotted as the QB20, he will be top 10. Justification: Anyone who saw last week saw Burrow putting on a clinic under pressure. Sure the Browns have some gaps, but Burrow is clearly getting into a swing with A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd. The line is obviously concerning as he’s getting hit a lot but he’s finding the open man and hitting the passes on a very consistent basis.

As Collins was placed on injured reserve before the season began, he is eligible to return to the team in Week 4 (next week). The Dallas Morning News has a newsletter that is emailed out to people throughout the week, you can sign up for it right here, and in Friday’s edition it was noted by Michael Gehlken that Collins “does not appear on track” to return at that point.

Nick Mullens will start Sunday at quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers when they face the New York Giants. San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan made that official Friday morning. Mullens will replace Jimmy Garoppolo, who suffered a high ankle sprain last week against the New York Jets.

Via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten described the team as “optimistic about hosting a limited amount of fans at Heinz Field beginning with our game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 11.”
