The window has closed.

The NFL’s deadline for players to opt out of the 2020 NFL season amidst the coronavirus pandemic officially passed at 4:00 PM Eastern today.

Opt outs are no longer permitted unless a player qualifies for one of these two exceptions:

  1. A new diagnosis reveals he has a high-risk condition.
  2. A player’s family member dies, is hospitalized, or otherwise moves to a medical facility because of COVID-19 or related condition.

Over 60 NFL players decided to opt out before the window closed on Thursday afternoon. You can [click here] to see a full list.

The Philadelphia Eagles only had one player decide to opt out and that was veteran wide receiver Marquise Goodwin. It’s pretty impossible to blame him after listening to his reasoning.

It’s worth noting that a number of the Eagles’ upcoming opponents experienced opt outs. See below for an overview through the lens of their 2020 schedule. It’s mostly a list of backups but some teams lost significant contributors.
