Quick Reads Decade in Review: RB Totals - Football Outsiders
LeSean McCoy was quietly the most productive running back of the past decade. He led all players in the 2010s with 10,434 rushing yards and 13,923 yards from scrimmage. Among running backs, he was second behind Adrian Peterson in rushing touchdowns, second behind Darren Sproles in receptions, and third behind Sproles and Matt Forte in receiving yards. He’s not a household name, however, because he was very quiet in the postseason. He only played in five playoff games, and that includes Kansas City’s win against Houston last year when he was on the field for exactly one snap. He also had three playoff games with Philadelphia and one with Buffalo, losing all four while averaging 55.5 rushing yards per game, 3.9 yards per carry, and 26.0 receiving yards per game.

There’s no question that the No. 6 overall pick from the 2017 NFL Draft is talented. He’s already notched two Pro Bowl appearances and one first-team All Pro season at age 24. Adams has started 46 out of 48 possible games and has logged 273 total tackles, 25 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, two interceptions, and one defensive touchdown. Pro Football Focus had Adams graded as their third best safety in 2018 and fourth best in 2019. The Eagles have previously shown interest in Adams. They curiously hosted him on a pre-draft visit in 2017 despite the fact they were selecting at No. 14 and Adams was consistently projected to go off the board before Philly’s pick. The Eagles also have an obvious front office connection to the Jets with former vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas leaving the Birds to become New York’s general manager last year.

On the surface the Jets appear to hold most of the leverage in this situation, as they are under no obligation to negotiate and Adams is under contract for two more years, with a third year of control guaranteed to the Jets if they are willing to give Adams the franchise tag. Thus the Jets can do nothing and Adams has limited options. He can play out his contract, or he can sit out, go unpaid, and be fined, but he has no ability to force an extension. However, Adams does have the the ability to become a very disruptive influence on the Jets, and he also has the option to potentially allow minor injuries to “linger” if he’s unhappy, so he is not completely without leverage.

One issue around dealing for Adams is the contract extension he is asking for. He wants to be paid as the top safety around and teams may not be ready to pay that right now. Adams is now saying he would go to a specific list of teams without a contract extension. Wouldn’t you know it, Dallas is reportedly on that list.

Mailbag: How much younger will the Eagles be in 2020? - PhillyVoice
In my 53-man roster projection from after the draft, I had Jason Peters, Vinny Curry, and Brandon Brooks on the roster. If you substitute Jordan Mailata for Peters, Prince Tega Wanogho for Brooks, and oh, say, Shareef Miller(?) for Curry, the Eagles’ average age at final cutdowns will be 25.5. That would a drastic drop from 26.6. My 53-man roster projection won’t be perfect, but that’s still a good rough number to project, for now. Even if they were to add Peters they’d still be at 25.8. Of course, younger doesn’t necessarily mean better, but they’ll be closer to the middle of pack this year than they were a year ago.

Winston is the only opposing quarterback ever to throw 5 TDs and 0 INTs against the Eagles in Philadelphia, and Martin’s 235 yards are only two off the most the Eagles have ever allowed (Emmitt Smith and Jim Brown). Kelly was fired a few weeks later.

Several former South Carolina football stars, including Marcus Lattimore and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, are leading a campaign to rename the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center on the school’s campus. The former Gamecocks — who also include Carolina Panthers running back Mike Davis, NFL free agent Jadeveon Clowney and Shaq Wilson, now on the football staff at the University of Tennessee — shared the same statement on social media: “To celebrate well known segragationist Strom Thurmond’s legacy by keeping his name on our Wellness Center sends a contradicitng message to our black students @UofSC. We can no longer be held back by those whose ideals represent divison. We must continue the fight for equality.”

Having players wear this could feasibly reduce potential coronavirus cases while they play at Disney World. Since players will be able to explore the Orlando campus, attend movie screenings, NBA games, and enjoy the other hotel amenities throughout the duration of the NBA season, it’s important for everyone to keep a safe distance. The NBA thinks these rings could help.

As demonstrators across America fight to liberate black people, whether through calls to abolish the police or through legislative action against systemic racism, the country is getting ready to celebrate the 155th anniversary of one of its earliest liberation moments: Juneteenth. A portmanteau of “June” and “nineteenth,” Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when a group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned that they were free from the institution of slavery. But, woefully, this was almost two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation; the Civil War was still going on, and when it ended, Union Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger traveled to Texas and issued an order stating that all enslaved people were free, establishing a new relationship between “former masters and slaves” as “employer and hired labor.” As much as Juneteenth represents freedom, it also represents how emancipation was tragically delayed for enslaved people in the deepest reaches of the Confederacy.
