Eagles’ Mount Rushmore: Doug Pederson era

Our series continues into the Super Bowl-winning era of players.

We continue our Memorial Day mini-series of Eagles’ eras Mount Rushmores with picks for best players during the Doug Pederson era (so far). BGN’s Community Manager Justin Goodhart already broke down his choices for the Chip Kelly era, and he’ll also revisit choices for the Eagles’ All-Time greats.

We want your input, too! So agree, disagree, and give us your picks in the comments!

The Eagles are still in the early years of what could end up being a very long tenure by head coach Doug Pederson. He won a Super Bowl in just his second season with the team, has a great rapport with his players, and has created a locker room culture that guys want to be a part of — plus, he seemingly has a great working relationship with Howie Roseman and the team’s front office. Despite only four years with the team, there are plenty of options for players who should have a spot on the team’s Mount Rushmore of greats.

This one was tricky because there’s so many players to choose from a team that won the Super Bowl only two years ago. I did not stick to the rule I had with Chip, any player that was featured in Pederson’s tenure so far is a candidate. Anyways, my selections:

  • Malcolm Jenkins
  • Carson Wentz
  • Zach Ertz
  • Brandon Graham

Jenkins was the brains of the Jim Schwartz defense. A fearless leader that always propped up his guys around him. No one will ever forget what he did for this city and no one wanted to see him go. Truly an Eagles great.

Without No. 11 there is no Super Bowl. Wentz proved that he has the tools to be remembered as a great QB in NFL history and what he’s done in his first four years already puts him on a trajectory to be the greatest quarterbacks in Eagles history. He and Doug Pederson are a perfect match together and most importantly, he IS an elite QB. I am very excited to watch him again this year.

The man that set the single season record for catches by a tight end, caught the game winning pass in Super Bowl 52, and has the shell of a Hall of Fame resume. Ertz is definitely someone you will think of when we remember that team in 10 years.

BG made the most important play in Eagles history. Earl Thomas be damned, the Eagles made the right pick. I have never seen Earl Thomas beat a guard inside to strip the greatest QB of all time to win a Super Bowl, have you? Graham is a smiling, wonderful and underrated player in the league. His play was the most exciting moment I ever had as an Eagles fan and to this day, not a day passes when I don’t think about that play.

There were so many players to pick from this one, my honorable mentions: Nick Foles, Fletcher Cox, Jason Kelce, Jason Peters, Lane Johnson
