A day after Ramsey all but admitted to local media that he’d like to be dealt elsewhere, legitimizing reports from earlier in the week indicating the outspoken Pro Bowler had officially requested a trade, CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora said Wednesday at least three different teams are considered early favorites to acquire the former first-round draft pick. ”The sense that I’m getting from GMs and personnel directors is Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles,” La Canfora told Adam Schein on CBS Sports Network. “These are three teams you hear the most about. Seattle, Philadelphia, they’ve been as proactive in making trades in this league across the board as anybody. And both were in, at least to some degree, on Minkah Fitzpatrick.”

Philadelphia Eagles. Projected first-round pick in 2020: No. 22. Like the Chiefs, the Eagles have a stacked-looking roster with a potential soft spot in the secondary. At this point, indications are that the Eagles are among the teams that would wait for the price to drop before wading into this seriously. But if it does, they also have enough roster depth in other spots to package a potential starter with their first-round pick.

My only real concern is about the personality. I have no real sense of whether the Eagles view Ramsey as someone disenchanted with a poorly run organization or someone who will be a distraction wherever he goes. They can glean some insight from his college position-mate Ronald Darby and his high school teammate Derek Barnett. I’ll take Ramsey at face value when he says he simply wants to win, and presume that he would be happy to go to a franchise with a winning recent history. And cornerback is probably the best position on the field for an outsized ego. Of course, we don’t know what the cost will end up being. I’d hang up the phone if multiple first-round picks is the sticking point, but if something like a 2020 first, Sidney Jones and a mid-round pick is the cost, I’d have Jeffrey Lurie charter a plane to Jacksonville tonight.

Now, let’s get to the play on the field. Carson Wentz didn’t have a great start to the game. There are throws I’m sure he would love to have back that were a bit off target as he worked on his timing with the cadre of new pass targets. He bounced back in the second half, however, and put the offense on his back, nearly willing the team to victory. It was a very courageous performance, especially considering the amount of hits he took. Atlanta’s defensive front, which we profiled last week before the game, was as good as advertised. Grady Jarrett and Takk McKinley each had strong games up front and were extremely disruptive. Atlanta also turned up the heat on Wentz, relying on a number of blitzes to get after the quarterback on Sunday night.

5) The Eagles vs. the first quarter. In Week 1, there was perhaps a bad penalty called on Jackson that interrupted a first quarter drive. In Week 2, the Eagles were dealing with multiple unexpected injuries very early. They didn’t score in the first quarter in either game. In Week 3, Eagles fans aren’t going to listen to excuses for a lack of first quarter production. In 2018, the Eagles scored just 2.6 points per game in the first quarter, worst in the NFL. That has to change now.

I think one of the strengths of this coaching staff is how they develop young guys and role players. Some teams fall apart when starters get hurt. The Eagles under Doug Pederson have been able to stay competitive and win their share of games. The personnel department finds the right guys. The coaching staff develops the talent and does a good job of putting players in position to succeed. The Eagles still have plenty of firepower. They should win this Sunday. Just as important, the Eagles should continue to improve. The team has looked fantastic for stretches, but completely inept for other parts of games. I think the Eagles will smooth things out as the season moves along. Some key players missed the summer and still haven’t played their best football yet.
