The Eagles Super Bowl Win Will Now Be Accompanied By a Live Philadelphia Orchestra Concert - PhillyMag
Since the Eagles won the Super Bowl way back on February 4th, we’ve watched the NFL Films footage of that Nick Foles Philly Special touchdown and other exciting plays from the game countless times, all underscored by that dramatic orchestral music that so perfectly captures the feeling of those moments. Well, now we’re going to be able to watch it all live in concert. In what may be the most genius marriage of sports and classical music that’s possible, NFL Films, the Eagles, and the Philadelphia Orchestra have teamed up for “A Championship Season” on July 24th at the Mann Center. NFL Films footage from the season will be shown on three large movie screens while the Philadelphia Orchestra plays the symphonic score live.

On the “step forward” part, I’m going to say Nate Sudfeld. Even though the Eagles didn’t put any points on the board in their regular season finale against Dallas last year, I thought Sudfeld showed a lot of positive traits. He may not play at all in 2018, but I think he’s going to turn some heads in training camp.

Frank Ragnow will likely be the second C chosen this week. He is big at 6-5, 312, but is still a good athlete. No one is looking to get rid of Jason Kelce right now, but he’s not getting any younger. The Eagles already brought James Daniels, the top C prospect, into Philly for a visit. Both Daniels and Ragnow have the size that the Eagles like in their OL. Both guys can play G or C. Ragnow can block on the move, something that is a must in the Eagles offense.

Here is my final mock draft for the Eagles, with them making a trade to move back a few spots and add an extra pick. I have them making a deal with Denver to acquire picks 40 and 106. The Broncos had a terrible year in 2017, but can easily bounce back and be a playoff team. They need quality more than quantity. The Eagles would love to add another mid-round pick to help them fill a few holes on the roster.

Scouts Inc. ranking: 29. Sony Michel is an ideal fit for a zone-run game. He has a slashing style and brings short-area speed and home run skills to create explosive plays. He can scoot (4.54 speed) and hit the hole at top speed. Plus, Michel (5-11, 214) has enough wiggle to slip defenders at the second level and is excellent in pass pro, and I see the talent to impact the passing game as an underneath target. In 2017, Michel averaged a whopping 7.87 yards per carry and rushed for 16 scores. I’m super impressed with his tape. He is an early-Day 2 pick with the ability to develop quickly into a versatile threat.

Derrius Guice - I rank Guice RB3 and grade him as a high-Round 2 value. Here, I’m more responding to the idea that he’s a first-round prospect. Guice lacks homerun speed, he’s a mediocre receiver, and he struggles with durability because he’s a brawling back who doesn’t have ideal size to weather all of the violence his style creates (5’10/224). He’s an NFL starter, to be sure, but I wouldn’t draft him unless he fell into my value range.

Would, and should, the Giants really draft Saquon Barkley No. 2 overall? - Big Blue View
If I was Dave Gettleman I would not pick Saquon Barkley at No. 2 overall. I’m not Gettleman, though. He knows more football than I ever will, certainly doesn’t care what any of us think, and he just might decide Barkley is his best option. It’s just not, in my view, what I believe to be the best use of the pick. If they take Barkley the move would undoubtedly tell us the Giants are committed to, and believe they can win, with Manning. He better prove them right. As for Barkley, he will need to prove the Giants right that he is the rare running back who can be a franchise-changer.

Kickoffs will be a focal point of the meeting, with continuing discussions about how to make the play safer — or get rid of it altogether. Packers President Mark Murphy said last month that the league was planning to call on head coaches and special teams coordinators to come up with solutions to the problem of concussions suffered on kickoffs, and that input will be sought at next week’s meeting. Steve Tasker, one of the best special teams players in NFL history, has confirmed that he’s part of the discussions around the future of the kickoff as well.

Shaun Dion Hamilton fits a certain Alabama mold: He’s big, he’s fast, and he can destroy people. The Tide have produced many linebackers with those attributes since Nick Saban took over the program in 2007, like Rolando McClain, Courtney Upshaw, Dont’a Hightower, C.J. Mosley, Reggie Ragland, Reuben Foster, and Ryan Anderson. Hamilton was slated to be Alabama’s starting Sam linebacker during College Football Playoff runs the last two seasons. But in 2016, he tore his right ACL during an SEC Championship win against Florida and missed the rest of the postseason. In 2017, he broke his right kneecap against LSU in early November, again lost for the season. He had to watch from the sidelines while the Tide finished off a national championship.
