Eagles News: Mychal Kendricks is playing very well

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 10/31/17.

Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Eagles LB Mychal Kendricks is good again, with gifs and stuff - PhillyVoice
One of the most pleasant surprises of the Philadelphia Eagles' 2017 season has been the play of linebacker Mychal Kendricks, a player the Birds almost traded this offseason. Thankfully for the Eagles, that trade never materialized, because they have needed him to fill in for Jordan Hicks, who is done for the season with a ruptured Achilles. In the Eagles' first game without Hicks starting in the middle of the defense, Kendricks came to play.

How about the rookie making a big play? Great job by Derek Barnett to burst through the 49ers’ field goal protection and block the kick. You have to love his effort: the Eagles were already up big in the game in the fourth quarter but he made the hustle play anyway. Special teams coordinator Dave Fipp loved it.

There is a lot of speculation about the Eagles having interest in RB Frank Gore. I have very mixed feelings on this. Gore is one of my all-time favorite non-Eagles. I love the physicality of his running, plus the fact he is such a smart player. I would love to see him in this offense. At the same time, he’s 34 and averaging 3.7 yards per carry. To be fair, that average is driven down by one game (25-57 vs CLE), but he’s clearly a declining player. How much is left in the tank? If the Colts cut him, I’d be all over bringing him in, but a trade? I’m not so sure. At most, I’m giving up a future late-rounder. The Eagles run game was at its best in 2016 when Ryan Mathews ran hard and broke tackles. It has been most effective this year with LeGarrette Blount doing the same thing. The difference is that he doesn’t have Mathews speed. Gore doesn’t either, but he is faster than Blount.

Who was that?! Sneaky-good performances that mattered in Week 8 - ESPN
Carson Wentz is a huge reason why the 7-1 Eagles are legitimate Super Bowl contenders, but he's not the only reason. Plays such as Mills' pick-six remind us that Philadelphia's defense is legit. Mills, a 2016 seventh-round draft pick nicknamed the "Green Goblin" because of his green hair, has established himself as a solid starter

Random Thoughts On A Great Eight Games - PE.com
It’s Denver this week, and as the Broncos traveled to Kansas City and struggled all night against the Chiefs, the reality hit home: Short week for them. Long week of waiting for us. The Broncos are in a tailspin with three consecutive defeats. Sunday is going to be very interesting ...

If Eagles don't sort out pass protection better, season could change in a snap - Daily News
Anything that casts shade on a 33-10 victory that runs a team’s record to 7-1 is going to sound a trifle shrill, but rewatching the first half of Sunday’s Eagles-49ers game brought something into sharp focus: The Birds are an unblocked blitzer and a Carson Wentz awkward fall or twist away from having this entire wondrous season come crashing down around them. The offensive line and the running backs just have to do a better job of protecting Wentz when the opposing defense reaches into its bag of tricks. And Wentz has to realize he isn’t invulnerable, and that he doesn’t have Jason Peters at his back anymore. He has to get rid of the ball, and failing that, he has to move.

Bo had a good breakdown of Vaitai's performance after the game. I thought he was OK. It's not like Vaitai was a huge liability, but at the same time, I'm not ready to say the Eagles are fine at left tackle. Let's see how he does next week against the Denver Broncos. Meanwhile, the Eagles used Isaac Seumalo as their sixth lineman on nine snaps. He did not look comfortable at all. The Eagles would be in huge trouble if Vaitai or Johnson were to go down.

Eagles somehow put together a winner overnight - NBC Sports Philadelphia
Team chemistry is such an elusive thing and, once you finally find it, such a fragile thing. What was the difference between the 2004 and 2005 Eagles? It wasn't talent. It was a solitary wide receiver who was intent on destroying the chemistry of a Super Bowl team because he wasn't happy with his contract. No sport requires this level of teamwork, and no sport requires this level of unselfishness. With very few exceptions, you really need a special group of people for sustained success in the NFL, and that's why figuring out what kind of person you're getting in the draft or free agency has become just as important as figuring out what kind of player you're getting. Which brings us to the 2017 Eagles, who by any measure are the best team in the NFL as we arrive at the midpoint of the season.

Five players the Philadelphia Eagles could target before the NFL trade deadline - CBS Sports
Cordy Glenn, the sixth-year left tackle, is the biggest name rumored to be available out of Buffalo. Pricey, but well regarded, he's on the second year of a six-year extension. He just turned 28 and is seen as the cornerstone of the team's O-line. The Seattle Seahawks have also been floated as Glenn suitors, and it's not hard to see why. Despite missing five games in 2016 and sitting out two this season with an ankle injury, the former second-round draft pick would be a plug-and-play left tackle for most teams. As a short-term solution in Philadelphia, he'd offer a lot of bang for a lot of buck, enabling Lane Johnson to stay put at right tackle.

Eagles Bring Halloween To Patients At CHOP - CBS Philly
For many of the sick children at CHOP, they won’t be able to trick-or-treat for Halloween. So on Monday, Eagles players Beau Allen, Nigel Bradham, Steven Means, Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith and Joe Walker, who came dressed as a taco, decided to bring the holiday there. They handed out treats and spent some time with some of their biggest fans.

Refocused: Kansas City Chiefs 29, Denver Broncos 19 - PFF
QB Trevor Siemian, 41.7 overall grade - By nearly all measures this was a poor showing from the Broncos’ quarterback. Siemien had a disastrous night when pressured, completing 0-of-6 passes while throwing two picks (including an inexcusable one where he attempted to find Demaryius Thomas but threw across his body over the middle of the field). He attempted 17 passes on the night that traveled at least 10 yards in the air and he connected with his receiver just six times for a total of 79 yards; all three of his interceptions came on balls that traveled at least 10 yards in the air.

Broncos ineptitude now a Vance Joseph problem - Mile High Report
The moment is too big for him, and as is the case with rookie head coaches, they get stubborn. Will he finally make the move that his team needs?

5 moments that defined the sloppy Broncos vs. Chiefs ‘Monday Night Football’ game - SB Nation
Trevor Siemian looked plain bad for most of the game, but his first half was particularly bad. Siemian went 5-of-14 in the half with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had just 56 yards passing.
