Eagles place Chris Maragos on injured reserve, promote Nate Gerry to active roster

This is a bummer.

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced a few roster moves on Thursday morning.

First, the team placed Chris Maragos on the injured reserve list. Maragos suffered a knee injury in Philadelphia’s win over the Panthers last week.

Losing Maragos is unfortunate. He’s Philly’s special teams captain. He also provides emergency depth at safety. Depending on the severity of his injury, Maragos could potentially be brought back later this season. He’s eligible to return to the roster after eight weeks if the Eagles decide to use one of their two allowed “return from IR” designations on him.

With Maragos placed on IR, the Eagles had an open roster spot. They decided to fill it by calling up 2017 fifth-round pick Nate Gerry from the Practice Squad.

Gerry played safety at Nebraska but the Eagles have been transitioning him to linebacker in the NFL. Philly will be counting on him to contribute to their special teams unit. For more background on Gerry, [check out this article.]

In order to fill Gerry’s vacancy on the practice squad, the Eagles brought back free agent wide receiver Rashard Davis. The undrafted player has bounced on and off the practice squad this season.
