Manchester United have not reached an agreement with Real Madrid over Alvaro Morata, according to the Spanish club’s president.

United have identified Morata as their main striker target this summer, with Real holding out for a fee of around £72million.

Morata is already thought to have agreed personal terms ahead of a move to Old Trafford, but Jose Mourinho’s side is understandably reluctant to part with such a high fee.

The 24-year-old scored 20 goals for Real last season but started just 19 games as he was often named on the bench behind the club’s more stellar players.

Reports on Wednesday claimed that the Spanish club is now holding out for a £80m fee, which would make Morata the joint-third most expensive player of all time, but Perez treated the latest stories with a straight bat.

“I don’t think we’re in negotiations with Manchester United, which is not to say that there are people around him who are talking, which is normal,” he said.

“I have read that we have reached an agreement, I do not know how many million times, but it is not true.”
