Marcus Rashford will be called up for England Under 21s this summer, putting the FA on a collision course with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.
The Young Lions head to Poland for the U21s tournament next month, with their opening fixture against Sweden on June 16.
Mourinho wants to give Rashford a break as he fears he risks burnout, according to today’s Sun.
The United striker, 19, was involved with England at last summer’s Euro’s and has played 52 games in all competitions since.
The Portuguese fears that playing friendlies in June ahead of at least three group games will have a detrimental effect on Rashford.
FA chiefs want clubs to accept their right to select whoever they want, Mourinho believes players shouldn’t drop down a level after playing for the senior side.
